RefAssured uses in-app alert icons to highlight potential fraud and deliverability issues that may require attention. These alerts are informational and are designed to help you decide whether follow-up is needed. This article explains the alert types you may encounter and how to interpret them.
Fraud Alert Icon
A fraud alert appears when a candidate and at least one of their references submit their forms from the same IP address.
This alone does not mean fraudulent activity has occurred. It simply indicates a pattern that may warrant closer review.
What to consider
When reviewing this alert, consider the following:
- Is the candidate still working with the reference, or were they in the same physical location when completing the forms?
- Are the scores from this reference unusually high compared to others?
- Are the open-ended responses brief, generic, or lacking detail?
Recommended action
Unless fraudulent activity is clear, we recommend contacting the candidate or reference to gather additional context before making a final decision.
Deliverability Alert Icons
Deliverability alerts indicate issues reaching a candidate or reference by email or text message.
- Orange icons indicate the person was reached through one method only, either email or text.
- Red Icons indicate the person could not be reached through any method.
Candidate Deliverability Alerts
This section highlights alerts that appear when a candidate cannot be reached after a reference request is sent.
Email Delivery Issues
If the candidate could not be reached via email, follow the instructions in the alert tooltip. An orange icon indicates the candidate was still reachable via text message.
Text message delivery issues
If the candidate could not be reached via text, follow the alert tooltip instructions. An orange icon indicates the candidate was still reachable via email.
Email and text delivery failure
If the candidate could not be reached via either email or text, the request is automatically canceled.
Before retrying, update the candidate’s contact information in your ATS.
Text unsubscribe scenario
If the candidate unsubscribed from text messages, an orange alert will appear. The recruiter will also receive an email with instructions and a direct bypass link that can be shared via personal text to allow the candidate to continue the process.

Reference Deliverability Alerts
This section highlights the in-app alerts recruiters will see when a reference cannot be reached. While you can update contact information on behalf of the candidate from their profile, candidates also receive timely notifications about any references that might be inaccessible via email or text message.
Taking it a step further, candidates have secure access to their personal References Status Page without needing to log in. From this page, candidates can:
- Update reference contact information
- Track reference completion status
- Add new references if needed
This self-service approach helps resolve deliverability issues quickly without interrupting the recruiter’s workflow.
Final Note
Alert icons provide additional insight alongside request and reference statuses. They are meant to guide investigation and follow-up, not to make automatic decisions.
